Prototype Bat & Ball Game - Originally For The #DigitalDumpster Game Jam

Hello * waves*

My name is Rae Michelle Richards - usually when it comes to covering games you can find my written content over at www.brokenjoysticks.net but for the last few weeks I've been trying to teach myself Unity 5 and C#. While I have ambitions of leading a team of 4 into creating an awesome action RPG I must first get my bearings when it comes to C# and game design... Not an easy task to be sure.

What I am posting to this Itch.io page is a very very very rough prototype build of a bat & ball game called "Get Brick'd" that I wanted to build for the #DigitalDumpster gamejam last month. Unfortunately life got in the way and the project hasn't been finished - even one demo stage.

So what works?

- Player controls a simple bat by using the left and right arrows

- Upon collision with a brick the brick will be destroyed

- Upon destroying all 8 bricks a simple 3D text message is changed to congratulate the player.

What doesn't work?

- No menu

- Only one level

- Ball physics need a lot of tweaking

Where does this project go from here?

I have some really neat gameplay ideas where something like this might go - beyond the typical Arkanoid clone type game. To be honest I wanted to have more done with this - the #DigitalDumpster game jam is simple: take assets from your hard drive and make something playable. Since technically a user can start this game and collect all of the bricks to reach an end-state it is playable.

I am going to be using this project as my kind of learning lab for menus, simple puzzle design and eventually sound and music integration. That being said I don't expect anyone to actually PAY me anything on this itch page. I am simply putting this out there because it is better to put out unfinished work than it is to not put anything out at all.

Regular updates about my game programming / design stuff will be posted here on itch and here - https://www.patreon.com/Kitsune86?ty=h
